My first thought for this album was “The Hotelier called, and they’re jealous because they could never follow up ‘Home, Like Noplace Is There’ like this”. Which doesn’t feel fair to either band, but there are some moments that really fit that same vibe. Not a bad thing, since that’s an album I enjoy, and there’s plenty else in the album that feels different.
The drums here sound really choked. They are compressed to hell, and I really wish the snare had more sizzle. My favorite song wound up being the one song that has more of a drum machine sound, and I think a decent portion of the reason is because of the drums.
