We reach the end of the line on Beatles albums, and that’s exactly how it feels. This being a halfway cohesive album feels like a feat in and of itself. Part of the songs were recorded live on a rooftop, and the other part in studio. And it feels pretty clear to me that they just had the tapes rolling as they wrote, and eventually just stopped recording and let the studio people figure out how to make an album out of what they did. Two songs, Dig It and Maggie Mae are clearly unfinished. Also just noticing Don’t Let Me Down doesn’t even make it on the album. Which is all very disappointing since when it’s on, it’s on. Two Of Us, Across The Universe, Let It Be, and Get Back are all solid classics.
It’s their 13th album in about 7 years. That is a disgusting amount of output with a truly incredible amount of legitimate hits. I can’t fathom it, but of course, I’m not a friggin Beatle. It all fell apart relatively quickly, but they still managed to release more music than most bands ever do. Some dullsville, some straight garbage. Whatever man, the dudes never had pizza.
Cool
Fave: Two Of Us, I’ve Got A Feeling
Least: Dig It, Maggie Mae
