The Beatles - The Beatles (White Album)

The Beatles - The Beatles (White Album)

I wasn't expecting this album to be so good. Like, I knew it had some hits on it, just like any other of their albums, but dang. After two wacky circus messes of albums, this one comes in like a freight train of "serious art". It feels kind of boring of me to like 'the serious stuff' more, but I do.

A lot of the mixes just feel good, too. Like, on the precipice of "modern" recording style. Who told them they could go so hard on While My Guitar Gently Weeps? It's a shame not every song is mixed so well. Helter Skelter is well known as being heavy AF for The Beatles, but the mix is pretty trash and really loses the power I want to hear.

There's still some wacky nonsense on here. Wild Honey Pie is annoying to be annoying. Revolution 9 is not quite 9 minutes of spooky noise. A bunch of the other songs also randomly switch to noise for the outro. The whole album is definitely too long, and while I'd like to just say "cut the nonsense out", I'll admit that probably wouldn't be authentic to them, so... good for them, but I'll pass on further listens.

Hell Yeah

Fave: While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Dear Prudence
Least: Wild Honey Pie, Julia
